To sum up the chapters

The headings for each section of the film have always been temporary place-holders, enough to summarise the chapter for an observer looking at the Storyboard (live document), but not what I would want them to be labelled as during the film. I still want the film to be split into the chapters though, it separates points in my life clearly, rather than it feeling like there's lots of time-jumps without explanation, that some chapters (the growing up parts) will contain minor time-jumps throughout as the two chapters cover about twelve/thirteen years altogether.

I started off by trying to build on the heading names I already had: Coming Out fit and Growing Up Tom-boy wasn't so bad, Family became Meet the Family, TransTape changed to Compression and NHS was renamed Lost and Forgotten.

I then started to consider how the songs I had chosen to soundtrack the chapters could work as titles: some worked well like No Matter What, Reflection, She's So Gone, Ready To Go and Brave Man. However, some didn't fit as well - like iT for the transtape chapter - doesn't really say much! Rebel Rebel as a name didn't fit for the chapter about high school/college, or Still Breathing as a chapter that's solely an interview between me and my parents about how things have changed for the better (aka a lot better than still breathing).

Finally, I started to consider why I chose those songs as an option: the lyrics. The songs were chosen because the lyrics fit the chapter perfectly, so surely they'd make sense as the chapter titles?

The (as it stands) finalised chapter headings:

  1. Presenting... An Ashton Blyth Animation... Definitive Times

  2. A family man (from Family Man - Fleetwood Mac)

  3. I gathered all the courage in the world (from No Matter What - Calum Scott)

  4. Can it be, I'm not meant to play this part? (from Reflection - Lea Salonga, Mulan Soundtrack)

  5. Not sure if you're a boy or a girl (from Rebel Rebel - David Bowie)

  6. Here I am, this is me (from She's So Gone - Naomi Scott, Lemonade Mouth Soundtrack)

  7. Hold on tight, this ride is a wild one (from Missing You - All Time Low)

  8. I'm ready to leap, I'm ready to live, I'm ready to go (from Ready to Go - Panic at the Disco)

  9. Not scared to feel the pain (from Brave Man - Will Young)

  10. Is there room for one more son? (from All These Things That I've Done - The Killers)

  11. I bought it for myself, I'm a man now (from iT - Christine and the Queens)

  12. Feeling like a drop in the ocean (from OK Not To Be OK - Marshmello & Demi Lovato)

  13. And we will never look back, at the faded silhouette (from Silhouettes - Avicci)
