Within the Epidermis

With a focused medium of mirrors, I am currently exploring the theme of identity. This piece is a chicken wire sculpture of a fractured human, but fastened back together in a disjointed way - it is the starting point to my installation.

The installation is called Within the Epidermis, and represents body image and people's imperfections. I want the viewer to look at the piece and consider what's on the inside of a person, not the exterior - why do you consider this sculpture 'deformed' looking? What do we consider the 'correct' body image?

Our views of perfection are constructed by our surroundings and heavily influenced by the media, hopefully this will change one day.
